What You Have to Do to Get the Credits
In the school room, take your seat somewhere near the blackboard. Don't make an untaken seat in front of you.
Take the tests and do well in them. See Ryota Iijima's "Getting Ready for the Test."
Give me a picture, photograph, of your face before or on the last day of the first month. The size of the picture has to be 50 mm by 50 mm or smaller, with your full name on the other side. If you have been learning under me before and given me your picture, you will not have to do it again.
If you are to be a learner in my year-round teaching hour, like Discussion on American Writings, come to the school room every week, at least 20 times, without getting late. If you are in my half-year teaching hour, like Outline of American Writings, come at least 10 times, without being late. I will not be interested in the reason of your being away from the school room. A letter of request to let you be away does not make you as if you were present. You may not be present for any reason, like getting a disease, taking part in an important family event, doing outside work, writing a paper, making money, looking for work, going out with your boy- or girlfriend, or just having a good time, as long as you come to the school room 20 times. And I will never let you see the number of the times you have been present or not present. You had better make out yourself and keep the record in your small notebook or day-book. [To be away because of Teaching Practice, or Kyouiku Jisshuu, is a different question. It's a part of your important school work. If you are going to have one this year, give me the news before.]
You may not get some important news while you are not present. I will not be responsible for a learner who is away. You will have to make a request to your friends for the news.
Be in the room at the noted time, before the roll call, the act to see who is present and who is not. If you are away, you will not be taken as present. In my teaching hours, coming late is different from being present. And don't come into the room while I am having roll call. If you come to the door of the room while roll call is being done, keep yourself out of the room till the call is over, and then come in.
